SUE + DAVE // DIY Backyard Wedding // 26.08.18

First dance.

First dance.

When Sue and Dave got in touch with me back in June, it wasn't under the best circumstances. Sadly the photographer they had booked had vanished without a trace, and they were left with a big gap missing from their wedding planning. Thankfully, although I was fully booked for the year I was free on their date so I was able to squeeze it in. And when we met up to talk plans I was glad that was the case. They were planning to say I do down the road at Wallasey Town Hall before stopping off for their wedding breakfast round the corner from where they live at Grove Hotel, with the main wedding reception all happening in their back garden. Yes that's right, their own back garden! They had been working for months to convert the space into something suitable to host the party, and from what they had described it was going to look amazing. I'm all for shooting at grand venues, but a backyard wedding sounded more up my street than anything to be honest.

The day came and it was a very relaxed affair. At the bridal prep Sue's preparations were being led by her daughter who was making sure everybody looked their best. The two flower girls were hilarious and kept me company whilst I was capturing all of the action. I arrived at the town hall to find a nervous but excited Dave, and everybody headed inside for the main event. An intimate ceremony followed and went for a quick stroll along the waterside before heading to The Grove for the meal. I met back up everybody back at the house as the transformation of their back garden was revealed to look absolutely amazing. A lot of hard work had clearly gone into the change and it had really paid off. Capturing a first dance and subsequent evening in such a personal(and well lit) environment was a real treat for me, and the photos really show it.
